President Shimon Peres told assembled Jewish machers in Jerusalem: "You have to close your eyes" to make peace. He argued that a peace agreement with the Palestinian Authority will encourage Sunni Muslims against Ahmadinejad.

Speaking at the annual General Assembly of the United Jewish Committees, he said that "making peace is a little bit like marriage. You have to close your eyes and accept what is possible to accept." His audience laughed and applauded.

Not present was his wife Sonia, who reportedly no longer accepts him in her life.

Peres, in his eighties, has been catching up on lost sleep since taking office.

And he has been burdening the supposedly apolitical office of President with distinctly left-wing political positions.

The Oslo peace process didn’t have any chance to bring peace. The Oslo Agreements were born in sin and brought only death, pain and sorrow…
After the horrible mistakes he commited as a result of his total lack of vision, Peres should keep away of politics and Media. Only a peace process with the acceptance by the Arabs to be resettled in other Arab countries had a chance to bring peace to the region. Financial compensations would be the main reason for the Arabs to accept their resettlement. The best solution for the Arabs would be to leave the borders of “greater Israel,” so that Israel could then annex the West Bank and perhaps Gaza. Advancing this solution, daily, at any occasion, might creat a new perception and bring peace. Any different solution presents a risk of an endless war. For more details : http://xrl.us/bjcgx

Maybe he was thinking of that film "married to the mob". A girl makes the mistake of marrying a mobster and then spends the rest of her life on the run and in fear for her life.

Boy, this old lizard is getting more senile by the day. I love his "making peace is like marriage" similae. Very astute. Except in most marriages (not necessarily including President Peres's one) the parties are not normally facing the perspective of one-sided concession and death threats. If he is speaking from personal experience, he must have married a hell of a hag.
