Attorney-General Menahem Mazuz announced Sunday evening that, after a final review of the so-called "cash envelopes" affair, he intends to indict Prime Minister Ehud Olmert for corruption-related offenses. The announcement was a formality that allows Olmert the option of a hearing with Mazuz before the attorney-general makes a final decision. Justice Ministry officials said the indictments could include charges of fraud, bribery, violation of public trust and receiving goods f

Senior officials close to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert have been expressing barely veiled criticism at Defense Minister Ehud Barak for backing Egypt's truce efforts. Olmert believes Barak is aiding and abetting the enemy. "Hamas senior officials see these images and hear these voices and draw encouragement from the notion that Israel is looking for a way out. Caretaker Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Sunday that the IDF was nearing the objectives it set for Operation Cast Lead. Speaking at the start of the weekly cabinet meeting, Olmert warned that what had been achieved thus far in an "unprecedented effort" must not be lost at the last moment.

Hamas rejected UN Security Resolution 1860, calling for an immediate ceasefire, and fire more than 30 rockets into Israel before 1pm Friday, and then continued firing during the three hour "humanitarian corridor."
Rockets hit Beersheva, Ashkelon, Sderot and other places in Israel's south. While the rockets caused no significant damage, they gave the Israeli government visible justification for saying that the diplomatic demand was unworkable.

From a military standpoint it was a superb opening salvo, clearly taking Hamas by surprise and inflicting punishing damage. Two waves of attacks from the air and the sea, with more than 150 sorties and 100 targets in an hour, smashed the Islamic terror group's above-ground security infrastructure.

Palestinian Authority chief negotiator Ahmed Qureia tells reporters that Prime Minister Olmert proposed that Israel take in 5,000 Palestinian refugees over five years, and agreed to give up more than 93% of Judea and Samaria (the "West Bank") as well as land from within sovereign Israel to compensate for the 6.8% of the West Bank that Israel wants to annex.
Qureia says both offers were unacceptable to the Palestinians. He said, in remarks to reporters, that Israel ne
