Many nationalist, Zionist Israelis saw Bibi as the great white hope, and after Netanyahu toppled Peres in '96, it was going to be a revolution, wasn't it? But then he was gone, less than three years later, off to make big bucks in speaking tours. Now he's back again.... or is he?
My prayer is that he will be Israel's next prime minister and that, when he returns to that office, he will certainly help.
I do not see Bibi as the "great hope" for Israel. Only One can wear that title and all true lovers of Israel are looking to Him to continue to establish, strengthen and secure the nation in its land until Israel is once again the head and not the tail among the nations.
Still, I want to see Netanyahu back in office, and I expect him to be better equipped this time than he was before. By his own admission he was "green" when elected to the premiership in 1996. He learned the hard way that the country is not run by the prime minister but by an unholy trinity comprised of cooperating media, police and supreme court judges who manipulate and direct the men that have been elected to lead.
He was also hamstrung by his coalition partners - too many centrists and leftists who threatened to topple him when they did not approve of his handling of the "peace process" - among other things.
Not to say that others are to blame for all the failures of his first term. Bibi has faults.
Those faults are, however, no more glaring than the weaknesses of his predecessors, and certainly no more so than those of the men who came after him. I would argue that his flaws are in fact far less pernicious than those of some.
Yes, he has faults, but he also has some sterling characteristics which could propel him from the realm of the politician into that of the statesman. Certain circumstances will make or break him. By wielding the wisdom acquired from past mistakes, choosing the right partners, and taking the helm at a time when the correct confluence of events enables him to steer full speed ahead, he may yet go down in history as one of Israel's greatest prime ministers.
And then there are his advisors. I would hold that they are even more pivotal, more important, than the man they will advise. I pray for a strong circle of committed Zionists - including God-fearing men - to be positioned around him. And for the all-invasive and corroding influence of the leftists to be cut off from him.

Hello Stan: well I know very little to nothing about politics but I do judge a face and..... judging the face of BiBi, I like him and think he would be good for Israel at this perilous time. I would just hope that BiBi would be an upright politician and do the right thing for the good of Israel and the Jewish people. God knows .... .they have suffered since the beginning of time. And this is one subjects reason I fail to grasp. As much as I know about the Jewish people (as a non-Jew), I have always been made welcome by them, and never once did they make me feel inferior or even unwanted. At one time I did work for EL AL. At the start I did feel rather like an unwanted entity, but it soon changed and I became "one of them." I pray for the Peace of Jerusalem. May her gates one day soon be open wide. My two bit piece Stan!
