I am a student of history. Professionally. I have written 15 books in six languages, and have studied it all my life. I think there is something monumentally large afoot, and I do not believe it is just a banking crisis, or a mortgage crisis, or a credit crisis. Yes these exist, but they are merely single facets on a very large gemstone that is only now coming into a sharper focus.

Something of historic proportions is happening. I can sense it because I know how it feels, smells, what it looks like, and how people react to it. Yes, a perfect storm may be brewing, but there is something happening within our country that has been evolving for about ten - fifteen years. The pace has dramatically quickened in the past two.

We demand and then codify into law the requirement that our banks make massive loans to people we know they can never pay back? Why?

We learn just days ago that the Federal Reserve, which has little or no real oversight by anyone, has “loaned” two trillion dollars (that is $2,000,000,000,000) over the past few months, but will not tell us to whom or why or disclose the terms. That is our money. Yours and mine. And that is three times the 700B we all argued about so strenuously just this past September. Who has this money? Why do they have it? Why are the terms unavailable to us? Who asked for it? Who authorized it? I thought this was a government of “we the people,” who loaned our powers to our elected leaders. Apparently not.

We have spent two or more decades intentionally de-industrializing our economy. Why?

We have intentionally dumbed down our schools, ignored our history, and no longer teach our founding documents, why we are exceptional, and why we are worth preserving. Students by and large cannot write, think critically, read, or articulate. Parents are not revolting, teachers are not picketing, school boards continue to back mediocrity. Why?

We have now established the precedent of protesting every close election (now violently in California over a proposition that is so controversial that it wants marriage to remain between one man and one woman. Did you ever think such a thing possible just a decade ago?). We have corrupted our sacred political process by allowing unelected judges to write laws that radically change our way of life, and then mainstream Marxist groups like ACORN and others to turn our voting system into a banana republic. To what purpose?

Now our mortgage industry is collapsing, housing prices are in free fall, major industries are failing, our banking system is on the verge of collapse, social security is nearly bankrupt, as is medicare and our entire government, our education system is worse than a joke (I teach college and know precisely what I am talking about)–the list is staggering in its length, breadth, and depth. It is potentially 1929 x ten. And we are at war with an enemy we cannot name for fear of offending people of the same religion, who cannot wait to slit the throats of your children if they have the opportunity to do so.

And now we have elected a man no one knows anything about, who has never run so much as a Dairy Queen, let alone a town as big as Wasilla, Alaska. All of his associations and alliances are with real radicals in their chosen fields of employment, and everything we learn about him, drip by drip, is unsettling if not downright scary (Surely you have heard him speak about his idea to create and fund a mandatory civilian defense force stronger than our military for use inside our borders? No? Oh of course. The media would never play that for you over and over and then demand he answer it. Sarah Palin’s pregnant daughter and $150,000 wardrobe is more imporant.)

Mr. Obama’s winning platform can be boiled down to one word: change.

Why?

I have never been so afraid for my country and for my children as I am now.

This man campaigned on bringing people together, something he has never, ever done in his professional life. In my assessment, Obama will divide us along philosophical lines, push us apart, and then try to realign the pieces into a new and different power structure. Change is indeed coming. And when it comes, you will never see the same nation again.

And that is only the beginning.

And I thought I would never be able to experience what the ordinary, moral German felt in the mid-1930s. In those times, the savior was a former smooth-talking rabble-rouser from the streets, about whom the average German knew next to nothing. What they did know was that he was associated with groups that shouted, shoved, and pushed around people with whom they disagreed; he edged his way onto the political stage through great oratory and promises. Economic times were tough, people were losing jobs, and he was a great speaker. And he smiled and waved a lot. And people, even newspapers, were afraid to speak out for fear that his “brown shirts” would bully them into submission. And then, he was duly elected to office, a full-throttled economic crisis at hand [the Great Depression]. Slowly but surely he seized the controls of government power, department by department, person by person, bureaucracy by bureaucracy. The kids joined a Youth Movement in his name, where they were taught what to think. How did he get the people on his side? He did it promising jobs to the jobless, money to the moneyless, and goodies for the military-industrial complex. He did it by indoctrinating the children, advocating gun control, health care for all, better wages, better jobs, and promising to re-instill pride once again in the country, across Europe, and across the world.

He did it with a compliant media–did you know that? And he did this all in the name of justice and . . . change. And the people surely got what they voted for.

Read your history books. Many people objected in 1933 and were shouted down, called names, laughed at, and made fun of. When Winston Churchill pointed out the obvious in the late 1930s while seated in the House of Lords in England (he was not yet Prime Minister), he was booed into his seat and called a crazy troublemaker. He was right, though.

Don’t forget that Germany was the most educated, cultured country in Europe. It was full of music, art, museums, hospitals, laboratories, and universities. And in less than six years–a shorter time span than just two terms of the U. S. presidency–it was rounding up its own citizens, killing others, abrogating its laws, turning children against parents, and neighbors against neighbors. All with the best of intentions, of course. The road to Hell is paved with them.

As a practical thinker, one not overly prone to emotional decisions, I have a choice: I can either believe what the objective pieces of evidence tell me (even if they make me cringe with disgust); I can believe what history is shouting to me from across the chasm of seven decades; or I can hope I am wrong by closing my eyes, having another latte, and ignoring what is transpiring around me.

Some people scoff at me, others laugh, or think I am foolish, naive, or both. Perhaps I am. But I have never been afraid to look people in the eye and tell them exactly what I believe–and why I believe it.

I pray I am wrong. I do not think I am.

That's what we've been screaming our head off about the significance of Obama's radical associates!
The entire aim of ACORN, Bill Ayers, Rev. Wright and all the other NeoMarxist/Socialists since the 70s has been to overburden the U.S. economy, cause it to collapse (which George Soros has helped along by manipulating the market)
and then introduce Socialism, replacing Democracy.

Even Warren Buffett said a few weeks ago, that he didn't understand what was going on with the market, that the "fluctuations" were "unnatural", even taking the subprime mortgage/credit crisis into consideration. The U.S. Stock Market was being manipulated by George Soros, much as he did when he broke the Bank of England on Black Wednesday, in order to throw the election in Obama's favor.

There is no question that a major change of historic proportions is happening, and has been since the collapse of communism. Tectonic movement in world economies not seen since WWII at the very least.
Russia, China, Eastern Europe, India and much of Asia has been liberated from communism and socialism and other constraints. Immediately after WWII, the US alone produced over half of everything in the world. Today, half of all manufacturing has moved to Asia.

The factors that once made the US the most competitive economy in the world are no longer in place. Energy is no longer cheap. Our distance from other continents no longer makes us safe, and only adds costs to shipping goods abroad. Mass assembly manufacturing is gone from the US because it was no longer competitive, and what manufacturing is still left requires hi tech skills. Our educational system k-12 has been destroyed mainly by liberal social engineering, and we no longer have a superior work force. And we have squandered and wasted a great deal of our resources though profligacy. It all adds up to what will be a drastic reduction in the American standard of living in the future, and when that happens, there is often finger pointing and looking for scapegoats. And we know who those scapegoats are most likely to be.

This analysis does not surprise me. I just hope that Obama is forced by circumstances to take another path.

I have received a message that "this discussion has been closed to further replies". This notice does not seem to appear on the Israelinsider page itself. I would like to know why this was done. Have the Obama thugs reached even to Israel?

"While critical phone calls are not unusual when you're working on a newspaper, these phone calls are not from random readers, they are coming from lawyers and sometimes doctors who wield influence in the community and may often be advertisers. Typical talking points for these phone calls typically warn against running any further critical articles of Obama "now that he is President", emphasize that most Jews voted for Obama and emphasize that "we must unite behind him" or there may be "consequences to our community."

The phone calls are conducted with a brashness and rudeness that smack of Rahm Emanuel. A not atypical closing section from a phone call received by the editor of a Jewish newspaper not too far away from Obama's home base ran like this.

Caller: Who the hell does he think is writing things like this about Obama?

Editor: He is a respected journalist who is a Holocaust survivor and has been appearing with us for many years.

Caller: As far as I'm concerned he's garbage! You can't run any articles by him again, not until he moderates his position.

Editor: This is a free country, you can have your opinion and he can have his opinion.

Caller: No he can't!

The objectionable article was a fairly mild piece that pointed out Obama's lack of experience. The caller was not some random reader, but a fairly influential local figure. One or two such incidents could be put down to random moonbattery trickling up, but I'm hearing of more and more similar phone calls. And I'm seeing more and more Jewish papers that had formerly criticized Obama "moderating" their position.

To what extent is this an orchestrated campaign to silence opposition in Jewish newspapers, those that at any point did oppose Obama, there is no way to know. But the outcome can nevertheless be seen on many editorial pages, and with Carter talking about Obama's plan to tackle the middle east early on, it can be seen as clearing the decks and intimidating the Jewish press at large into remaining silent."

Thanks for affirming what many of us observe.

Some Jungian psychology of the Collective Unconscious might be useful here. Jung spoke of psychic archetypes that have an almost supernatural force behind them. These archetypes can be good or evil or a mixture of both. I think in the Biblical sense, the ancient pagan gods, like the Baals and Moloch, were of this nature. People would perform human sacrifice under the spell of these collective archetypes.

The Israelite calling came from a Higher Source and Archetype to free mankind from these lower kinds of destructive archetypes. Western Civilization is based on a blending of the Israelite Higher Archetype and Greek Philosophy. But the furies of the lower archetypes, though sublimated, are capable of resurrecting when we lose our spiritual footing. Nazism came as a revival of Norse pagan gods (archetypes). Obamaism, along with jihadist Islam, are under some kind of Canaanite archetype, it seems to me, that is not completely sublimated in normative Islam and has been provoked by Western decadence.

Archetypes fill a spiritual vacuum. We have lost our spiritual and moral footing in the West. The 20th Century poet, T.S. Eliot, sensed this decline when he wrote his famous poem, "The Wasteland." An answer to the wasteland he suggests in his poem, "Ash Wednesday." Ash Wednesday is like the Christian Day of Atonement. Eliot assumes the voice of Elijah the Prophet in this poem. He uses the word, "turning," over and over again. Malachi prophesied that Elijah would come before the great and dreadful day of the Lord to turn the hearts of the children to the fathers and visa versa, lest God smite the earth with a curse. Eliot's personal turning was back towards his Christian faith. In Hebrew we say, "Teshuvah."

Without Teshuvah, the spiritual vacuum augments itself and this provokes the furies of the lower archetypes that come out with a vengeance. The Haskalah Movement in modern Judaism, and modern Western secularism have made tremendous inroads into our culture, to the point that some mainline Christian denominations and two large Jewish denominations--Conservative and Reform--now allow for homsexual "marriage" and ordinations. These are symptoms of the spiritual vacuum and need for Teshuvah. Without such a turning to the faith of our fathers, a curse is promised.

Obamaism is one aspect and jihadist Islam another of this curse. We are bringing it upon ourselves by ignoring the Divine admonition for Teshuvah.

Battlelines are clearly being drawn in every Christian denomination.
Those who are clearly on the side of evil vs those who stand on the side of G*d.
I have personally witnessed a number of defining issues that have served to flush out those who stand on the side of darkness and shine a bright light on those who are clearly on the side of G*d.
This election has also served to clearly define your neighbors, friends, acquaintances, family, etc., as either
those who were secretly harboring a heart of darkness or are truly full of light. It's been very telling, indeed.

I agree with you. Its scary.. even more scary when you realize so many of us see the error our country is making and are helpless to change it. I feel like we have kicked God out of our country I feel he has been replaced with evil.. How have we got so far away from the ideals set down by our founding fathers.When you speak to people its Obama will give us this...etc..People need to wake up.. I guess some folks might call me paranoid, but as soon as I saw the nominations for the post of US president, my immediate thought was, would they really elect a man with a very significant Muslim name? OK, paranoid! Yet, I had a very sick feeling, which has only been strengthened as I read about the controversy over Obama's birth certificate and his refusal to produce an original and his association with people like Odinga of Kenya.

Now, I have come across this:

Mystical reasons aside, the Khomeinist establishment sees Obama's rise as another sign of the West's decline and the triumph of Islam. Obama's promise to seek unconditional talks with the Islamic Republic is cited as a sign that the U.S. is ready to admit defeat. Obama's position could mean abandoning three resolutions passed by the United Nations Security Council setting conditions that Iran should meet to avoid sanctions. Seeking unconditional talks with the Khomeinists also means an admission of moral equivalence between the U.S. and the Islamic Republic. It would imply an end to the description by the U.S. of the regime as a "systematic violator of human rights."



This makes me wonder what name is on Barack Obama's birth certificate. Has he changed his name to this very significant one?

I do have the feeling that something of great magnitude is happening with the election of Barack Obama as POTUS and it really worries me.

Sadly, I agree with tps, who has captured the state of current events perfectly. There are many of us who will not go gentle into that good night, however.

And I will wear my US/Israeli flag pin for the duration of Obamarx' presidency. I wear it to remind all I encounter what a friend and ally Israel is to us. And I wear it so the civilian security force can identify me easier when they come for me in the night.
