Ten Russian warships have docked at Syrian port
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report

Russian Navy in action
Israeli military and naval commanders were taken by surprise by Rear Adm. Andrei Baranov's disclosure that 10 Russian warships are already anchored at the Syrian port of Tartus, DEBKAfile’s military sources report.

Moscow and Damascus have worked fast to put in place the agreement reached in Moscow on Sept. 12 by Russian navy commander, Adm. Vladimir Wysotsky and Syrian naval commander Gen. Taleb al-Barri to provide the Russian fleet with a long-term base at Syrian ports. Israel was not aware that this many vessels were involved in the deal.

What most worries Israeli military leaders is an earlier announcement by Adm. Wysotsky that Russia’s Mediterranean assets would subjected to its Black Sea fleet command, thereby placing Russia’s warships near Israel’s shores at the service of Moscow’s contest against the US and NATO in the Caucasian. It is feared that Israel will be dragged into another cold war.

Rear Adm. Baranov disclosed that the warships in Tartus had brought engineering crews to widen and dredge the harbor to accommodate additional, fleet vessels. The crews were also working on expanding Latakia, another Syrian port, possibly for aircraft carriers or guided missile cruisers.

The Russians are making no secret of their intention of using their naval presence in Syrian ports as a deterrent to a possible Israeli air strike against Syria.

"...Israel...dragged into another cold war." (?!)

When has Israel ever known one day of peace?

I would suggest that "cold" is not the best term to describe what is developing this time.

Like a broken record, we remind anyone who will listen that it is time to wake up. Russia, Syria and Iran are preparing for war.

Iran is going to develop nuclear weapons.

Russia is going to see to it.

We must reconcile ourselves to this inevitability. Maj. Gen. Curtis LeMay was right.

Here is the real problem.

Why would Russia need to deter an Israeli air strike?

Israel removed the threat of a Syrian nuke last year for several years to come. Is Russia planning on building a new reactor in Syria? When you look at the facts, both Russia and Syria are arming Hezbollah with rockets, Syria has a sizable stock pile of chemical weapons and Israeli intelligence is preparing for their use. Syria sent their top commando brigade to Lebanon to met up with the Alawites, a pro-Syrian Hezbollah group. At this moment you have Syrian commandos joining with Hezbollah instructing them on the newer Russian rocket technologies.

Here is what I see happening in the near future. Syria using Hezbollah, as a proxy will start firing rockets at Israel from southern Lebanon. They will do this while the Israeli government is in a state of crisis, over the Kadima leadership and their ability to unify the country. Syria will deny any involvement saying it is fringe (Palestinian) groups from Lebanon's refuge camps. Israel will be careful to respond, because of the Russians, but Syria will escalate thinking that Israel is afraid of the Russian presence. They will escalate with Chemical Weapons, as Syria will start to believe their own propaganda. At this moment Israel will face its Moment of Crisis, since Israel has no chemical weapons and Chemical Weapons are considered a weapon of mass destruction Israel will use their only WMD in what I will call the David option. Israel knowing that a ground attack against Lebanon would leave them vulnerable it Palestinian uprisings in the Gaza and West bank, they will send two F-15's from Ramat David to Damascus. Under full military power Syria would have 90 seconds warning once the f-15's cross the red-line before the mushroom appears over Damascus. Thus fulfilling Isaiah 17.

I have been following these developments as a former US Marine trained in providing the USMC command with information displaying the tactical situation. So I do know how to think critically. Thanks Bear- You've calmed my heart. I'll sleep better now.

I hope it is faith in the G-D of Israel that calmed your heart and not me. I just look at current events and see the hand of G-D all over the place, and I look at the capabilities of men in fulfilling what G-D had already said was to happen, nothing more.
