Netanyahu inner cabinet says 'Yes' to swap, with big 'But'

Benjamin Netanyahu convened the six senior ministers for what was to be the decisive meeting of his "inner cabinet" regarding a possible prisoner exchange with Hamas, in which some 950 Palestinians, including scores involved in murdering Israelis, were to be released in exchange for abducted soldier Gilad Shalit.

In the end, according to foreign reports echoed in the local media, Israel agreed in principle to the Hamas demand but attached a caveat that may scuttle the deal

Carter begs forgiveness for stigmatizing Israel, may change title of his book

Former US President Jimmy Carter on Monday has begged the American Jewish community to forgive him for stigmatizing the Jewish State over the years, and his begging may yield some big-time bucks.

Carter, the former peanut farmer who grew to be one of the most disliked and least successful American presidents, has outraged Jews with his provocative anti-Israel speeches and writing as epitomized by the title of his book "Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid."

In that book, Carter

Livni cancels UK visit after arrest warrant for "war crimes" is issued

The Foreign Ministry on Tuesday called for an end to the "absurd situation" in which arrest warrants were being issued to Israeli officials over alleged "war crimes" in the Gaza Strip. "Only actions can put an end to this absurd situation, which would have seemed a comedy of errors were it not so serious," said the Foreign Ministry, a day after it emerged that opposition leader Tzipi Livni had canceled her trip to Britain after a warrant was issued for her arrest.

"Smoking Uranium" indicates Iran is working on final nuke stage

Iran is working on development of a neutron initiator, a key final component of a nuclear weapon, The Times of London reported Sunday. The newspaper reports obtaining confidential intelligence documents from "foreign intelligence agencies" and quotes a source at an "Asian intelligence agency" as confirming that Iran has been working on the device since at least early 2007.

A document cited by the paper also describes the use of uranium deuteride, a material experts believe

Muslim attacker bites Rabbi during Hannukah ceremony

A Muslim man -- reportedly a Palestinian -- attacked a Chabad rabbi Saturday night as he was lighting the public Chanukah menorah in Stefenfaltz Square in the city of Vienna, Austria. The attacker hurled himself at Rabbi Dov Gruzman, principal of the city’s Jewish school run by the Chabad-Lubavitch Chassidic movement, and began punching him, a local resident told Arutz Sheva.

As the rabbi
